We 're finally on air! Enjoy our first episode and share our channel! 
Mr Bairaktaris is 75 years old and gives some really interesting answers regarding school in the olden days!

1st episode - An interview about school in the olden days

Sweet Mr. Ploutarchos Pourliakas is in his 89th year of life. Born in 1937 in Vlasti, Kozani, he permanently resides outside Kastoria. The "Athens Marathon - The Authentic" takes place every November in Athens with hundreds of athletes participating in it. It is a route of 42.195 kilometers starting from Marathon and finishing at Kallimarmaro Stadium. These two sentences wouldn't be newsworthy if they weren't connected! You see, Mr. Pourliakas was the oldest runner to finish the "Athens Marathon - The Authentic" in 2024 and received an honorary award for this achievement! At "Deuterologies", we were very excited to hear the news! We found him, he agreed to speak with us with enthusiasm, and in today's episode, we present our conversation. Mr Pourliakas is a role model. Let's fill the hearts and minds of children with role models like him!

INTERVIEWS 

At the beginning of February 2025, we had the pleasure of welcoming Mr. George to our school. He has total vision loss and was accompanied by his lovable guide dog, Jazz.

Initially, Mr. George spoke to all the students, explaining, among other things, the important role that Jazz plays in his life.

After dozens of questions from the children, we hosted Mr. George in the "Second Speeches" segment. He spoke to us about blindness, Jazz, his daily life, and the "Lara" Guide Dog School for the Blind.

A big thank you to Mr. George, Ms. Chara from Lara Guide Dogs, Jazz, and the older students (4th, 5th, and 6th grades) who were behind the microphone!

ANIMA was founded in 2005 and is dedicated to the care and rehabilitation of wild animals, ensuring their return to their natural habitat. In doing so, it fulfills a crucial need for the protection and preservation of wildlife in the country, as there is no state agency responsible for this field.

During our "Deuterologies" session, we had a wonderful discussion with Ms. Anna from ANIMA, during which she provided insightful answers to all our questions!

Our introduction to ANIMA came about thanks to the "encounter" of two students from the 5th Primary School of Pallini with an injured pigeon on their way to school. ANIMA guided us providing the necessary care for the pigeon, and then we sent it to their facilities, where it could recover before returning home - to nature!

Taking inspiration from the chapter "Beyond the Distant Fields" from the Environmental Studies book for second grade, we had a very engaging discussion with the children about cultivating the land. While talking about agricultural work, we realized there were many unfamiliar words and concepts that we were eager to understand - plowing, harvesting, sowing, tractor, grape harvest, and many more. So, we turned to a farmer, Mr. Takis Dimitropoulos from Christianoupolis, Messinia. He answered all our questions in detail and, through his storytelling, filled our minds with wonderful images of his village.

5th episode | Rural life - past and present

In second grade, children's teeth start "heading off to other places"! In Greece, we usually throw them onto the roof or put them in a little box. Sometimes, the tooth fairy might even pay a visit. But what happens in other countries around the world? Where do children's teeth go in El Salvador, Chile, and Australia? 

These questions will be answered if you read the wonderful book "Fafoutiko" written by Despina Kokidou. On "Deuterologies", after reading the book and discussing the customs and traditions of different peoples, we decided to learn everything "straight from the source"! 

So, we had a lovely interview with Mrs. Kokidou and learned both about the customs of other countries and about the methods of writing a book.

6th episode | "To fafoutiko" (Toothless) by Despina Kokidou

As Easter approaches (this episode was recorded one week before schools closed for the Easter holidays) we talked in class about the most well-known customs. We concluded that the most 'famous' Greek Easter is the one celebrated in Corfu, so the grandmother of one of our students (Ms. Martha) - who is originally from the island - gave us a very interesting interview.

How does a new idea for a book come to life, and where do authors draw their inspiration from?

These and many other similar questions have recently emerged in class, as book borrowing from the school library continues at a steady pace!

So, we reached out to Ms. Rania Boubouri, who has written 36 books to date! We had a wonderful conversation with her, and she answered all our questions with her insightful responses and beautiful way of speaking. We thank her warmly!
