*Good evening and welcome to our podcast titled, "Crimes in Greece". Today, together with our team, we will refer to some of the most shocking and controversial crimes that have shaken our country. Crimes that left deep marks on our society and still cause discussions. Greece is no stranger to crimes that have either shed light on dark sides of society, or have provoked strong reactions. So let's start with the first case, the story of "Sheikh Sou's Dragon".*

* The case of Aristides Pagratidis, known as "Sheikh Sou's Dragon", shocked Greece in the 1960s. Pagratidis, a poor young man from Thessaloniki, was accused of rapes and murders committed in the forest of Sheikh Sou. The crimes, which included horrific attacks on couples, had spread terror in the city.
Pagratidis was arrested in 1963, confessed, but later recanted, stating that he had been tortured into signing. Despite doubts about his guilt and a lack of hard evidence, he was sentenced to death and executed in 1968.
The case remains controversial, with many believing that he was a victim of the times, as the authorities wanted to quickly close the case, accusing a young man, on the margins of society.

**Role**: Presentation of the Paedophile Douris Case

The crime of Manolis Douris in 1993 shocked Greece, when the father was accused of the rape and murder of his 6-year-old son, Nikos. Douris initially confessed but later denied his guilt, blaming his wife and others. Despite the doubts expressed about his guilt, he was sentenced to life imprisonment. Supporters of his innocence, including his family, say the crime was attributed to him because of poverty and social stigma. He was abused in prison and committed suicide in 1996. The case remains controversial, with some arguing thatthey believe that the real culprit went unpunished, while his family still lives on the sidelines.

**Role**: Presentation of the Panagiotis Frantzis Case

The Panagiotis Frantzis case, in 1987, shocked Greece as one of the most horrific murders of the time. Frantzis, 27 years old at the time, killed his 18-year-old wife, Zoe Garmani, during a fight at their home in Athens. Then, in an attempt to cover up the crime, he dismembered her body and threw the parts in garbage bags in various parts of the city. The crime was revealed when the authorities found the dismembered parts and arrested Frantzis, who confessed to his act. The case shocked the public, and Fratzis was sentenced to life in prison. Since then, his name has become a symbol of extreme violent crimes.

* The Vassilis Sehidis case, in 2006, is considered one of the most horrific in Greece. Sehidis, a psychology student, killed five members of his family in Thassos: his father, mother, sister, grandmother and uncle. The crimes were committed after alleged disagreements and were characterized by cold method. The perpetrator dismembered the bodies and threw them in garbage bags and into the sea. The case was revealed when the authorities suspected the disappearance of the family and interrogated Sehidis, who eventually confessed. During his trial, psychiatric reports showed serious psychological problems. Sehidis was sentenced to life imprisonment. The crime shocked Greek society, with the methodicalness and indifference of the perpetrator causing horror.
#### 6. **Analyst 5 (Student 6)**

The case of 4-year-old Anny Borisova, in 2015, shocked Greece with its gruesome nature. The little girl disappeared in Athens, and initially her parents reported her missing to the authorities. Soon, it was revealed that her father, Savvas Borisov, was the perpetrator of the crime.
Savvas admitted to murdering Anny in their apartment, while in an attempt to hide her tracks, he dismembered her body and threw it in the trash. Her mother was accused of covering up. Their trial caused intense anger in public opinion. The father was sentenced to life imprisonment, while the case left its indelible mark on Greek criminal cases, for the inhumanity and violence against an innocent child.

Presentation of the Nikos Koemtzis case

Nikos Koemtzis was born on January 17, 1938 in Aeginio, Pieria. On February 25, 1973, at the nightclub "Neraida tis Athinas" in Kypseli, he asked the orchestra for the song "Oi Vergoules" as an order for his brother, Demosthenes, to dance. According to the unwritten law of the order, the dance floor had to be cleared for the dancer. However, three patrons, including police officers, continued to dance, ignoring tradition. Demosthenes protested, but the police officers ignored him and pushed him away. Nikos, seeing the insult to his brother, in a state of amok, attacked with a knife, killing three people and injuring seven others.

After the incident, Nikos and Demosthenes fled, but were arrested a few days later. In November 1973, Koemtzis
was sentenced to three death sentences and seven life sentences. His sentence was commuted to life imprisonment after the abolition of the death penalty in Greece. He remained in prison for 23 years and was released in 1996. After his release, he made a living selling his book "The Long Zebekiko" and passed away on 23 September 2011 in Athens.

*These crimes are just a few of the tragic incidents that have occurred in Greece, and remind us how seriously we need to address social injustices, inequality and lack of support for victims.
 Each of these crimes has left wounds in our society and shows us the need for more protection, awareness and improvement of the justice system. 
Hopefully the mistakes of the past will help us build a safer and fairer future for all.
